What is hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is a comprehensive antenatal course. It teaches mums and their birth partners all aspects of late pregnancy, labour and birth.
Who can do hypnobirthing?
Anybody who is going to experience a baby being born.
Mums: Every expectant mum can benefit from the information given in a course to help them take control of their birth experience.. The relaxation techniques will give them a more comfortable birth experience.
Birth Partners: Hypnobirthing courses are for the dads and/or birthing partners too. They too need to prepared for the birthing experience and what may unfold.
So it isn't only for first-time mums?
Absolutely not - anyone can do hypnobirthing.
Mothers who had a previous experience that left them wanting more, will find hypnobirthing extremely beneficial. They can use the techniques to create their preferred birth. Women planning a vaginal birth after Cesarean (VBAC), will find hypnobirthing a supportive antenatal course to facilitate their VBAC.
Knowing hypnobirthing techniques can also help those mums who have planned inductions. Hypnobirthing prepares a woman for a calm pregnancy and a relaxed labour - whichever path it takes.

Can you really have a pain-free birth with hypnobirthing?
Yes, it is possible, but it’s not the case for everyone. There are many factors that can affect a birth, some of which are outside of our control.
Approximately 5-10% low-risk births fall into 'special circumstances'. This is where mum or baby need medical intervention.

It teaches you be better prepared for any change in circumstances. Women who used hypnobirthing say that the techniques really helped - even when they were induced, had an assisted birth or ended up with a Caesarean.
Can my birthing partner(s) attend the hypnobirthing classes with me?
Absolutely, and at no extra cost. Hypnobirthing is for dads and/or birth partners just as much as for the mum. Some fathers may be reluctant to join but please encourage them to come. I promise you I am not a tree-hugging hippy. Many fathers surprise themselves at how quickly their perceptions change. |
